Open Question: Am I working out TOO much? I can’t satisfy my appetite

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

For the last 8 months, I have been working out a LOT. I incorporate it into my daily routine and has just become habitual. Every single morning and every night before I go to sleep I have a set workout regimen:

Morning:
60 pushups, with legs propped high
3 sets of dumb bell curls (25lb weights)
120 sit ups (either on the exercise ball or on the crunch ab roller)

Before Bed:
60 push ups (feet on ground)
120 sit ups (alternating from morning sit up routine)
Shoulder presses with dumb bells (30lb weights)

On top of these regular morning and evening routines, I go to the gym 4-5 times a week. I spend 25 minutes doing cardio on the elliptical. Then I spend 30-40 minutes lifting weights in different groups (chest/tris one day, biceps/back another day, shoulders/legs)

I don’t think I over exert myself with the weights, I just like to do several reps with a moderately challenging weight.

I am 5′9″, 148lbs. I am pretty toned I suppose, but my issue is that I have a huge appetite now. I can’t satisfy it no matter what. I’ve tried eating 6 balanced meals a day, I’ve tried eating a big breakfast. Nothing. I treat almost every lunch and dinner like an all you can eat buffett. I have become an eating machine. I suppose it is okay for now when I am working out a lot, but when I stop working out, am I going to get fat??

I’ve tried eating a lot of protein rich foods, meats, whole grain wheat, fruits, vegetables. I don’t have a sweet tooth, and I try to eat healthy, low fat foods. but it takes a considerable amount of food to keep me full. Sometimes I will eat 2-3 large portioned dinners.

Is this healthy?
